Terms
Below you will find a copy of our contract which outlines the Terms for adopting through Interstate K9
ADOPTION/TRANSPORT FEE – The adoption/transport fees are considered non‐refundable/non‐ deductible donations. The adoption/transport fee for the pet is $____ (depending on animal / transport) which helps defray the costs of veterinary care and medicines, housing costs, food, expenses, and transport. This fee is non‐refundable and monies over and above the actual cost of the pet’s care while with INTERSTATE, if any, will be used to assist in the rescue and rehab efforts of other pets in INTERSTATE’S program.
NO REPRESENTATIONS ‐ INTERSTATE has made no representations or warranties as to the condition, personality, health, training, or temperament of the pet. This pet is being placed with ADOPTER for domestic purposes only and the ADOPTER understands that this pet was previously surrendered or abandoned and may have come from an unhealthy situation prior to being part of the INTERSTATE program. ADOPTER acknowledges that the known background story and known medical history have been disclosed by INTERSTATE to the best of their knowledge.
PET CARE PRIOR TO TRANSPORT – During their time in the INTERSTATE program, the pet will receive all appropriate vaccinations, vetting, parasite treatment/prevention and care appropriate to its age and condition. INTERSTATE is a foster-based program and litters are placed with a foster where they receive rehab, vetting, and socialization in a family setting until the time of transport. INTERSTATE believes that the spay/neuter of a puppy at too young of an age can be detrimental to its health and development long term. Therefore, only pets over 6 months of age will be spayed/neutered prior to transport. Depending on their breed, and our vets, some puppies are spayed / neutered prior.
TRANSPORTING OF PET – ADOPTER understands that the pet will be released to the transport company only after receiving a health certificate issued following an examination by a licensed Veterinarian assuring the health of the pet. Once the pet boards the transport (airplane, vehicle), INTERSTATE is no longer liable as the pet is now in the care of the third party. Travel can be super easy for most, tough on others. We of course have no idea how the animals will adapt on the transport.
PET EXPOSURE TO OTHER DOGS/ELEMENTS – ADOPTER acknowledges that the pet (dog or cat) should not have any contact with other puppies or kittens (depending on which species you adopt) or partially vaccinated dogs / cats until the pet is cleared by their veterinarian and are fully vaccinated. To prevent exposure to life threatening viruses, diseases, or parasites, ADOPTER understands that the pet should not visit dog parks or any other public areas until they are fully vaccinated. Adopter understands there is a risk in bringing in an unvaccinated animal of any kind into a home where their other animals are not fully vaccinated. The veterinarian may suggest additional vaccinations, dependent on the part of the country and known pet diseases and parasites inherent to the area the pet is adopted to.
CARE OF THE PET – ADOPTER agrees that the pet will be kept in appropriate conditions for its health and welfare and shall not be neglected in any manner. The pet will be raised as a household pet, companion, and family member.
VETERINARY CARE – ADOPTER agrees to have the pet seen by a licensed veterinarian within 7 days of adoption and to provide routine care throughout the life of the pet. In case of illness or injury, ADOPTER agrees to seek prompt veterinary care. ADOPTER agrees to keep all required vaccinations current including, but not limited to, Rabies and Distemper and to ensure the pet receives preventative medicine to protect against fleas, ticks, heartworm, and other parasites. ADOPTER understands that their pet can easily be infected with parasites at any time and must continue to give booster wormer/preventatives on a timely schedule as directed by your veterinarian.
SPAY/NEUTER – In cases where the pet was too young to be spayed/neutered prior to transport, ADOPTER agrees to spay/neuter the pet, at the ADOPTER’S expense, at the appropriate age as suggested by the veterinarian. All health records and spay/neuter records will be made available by the ADOPTER, or their designated veterinarian, to INTERSTATE upon request.
NON‐DISPARAGEMENT ‐ ADOPTER agrees not to spread any false truths or through social media, or any other avenue, regarding INTERSTATE and will remain in contact with INTERSTATE directly if there are any concerns or issues that need to be addressed.
OWNERSHIP – ADOPTER agrees not to abandon, give away, sell, dispose of, or euthanize the pet (unless it is suggested by a veterinarian and in the best interest of the pet’s medical health and comfort). If the ADOPTER determines that he/she is no longer able or desires not to keep and care for the pet, INTERSTATE must be contacted, and arrangements will be made for the pet to be returned to INTERSTATE or its representatives.
MICROCHIP – INTERSTATE will provide a microchip implanted in your pet for identification purposes prior to transport. ADOPTER agrees to register the microchip immediately after receiving it from transport and will keep the contact information current if it changes.
PET INSURANCE – INTERSTATE strongly advises the ADOPTER to retain pet insurance for their newly adopted pet.
BREACH OF AGREEMENT; LIQUIDATION DAMAGES – In the event that the ADOPTER does not comply with the terms of this Agreement, or the pet is abused or neglected, INTERSTATE reserves the right to recover the pet from the ADOPTER upon demand.
NO LIABILITY – Neither INTERSTATE, nor its volunteers, are liable for any claims, legal actions, losses, injuries, damage, costs, expenses, or liabilities whatsoever in connection with this adoption or ownership of the pet. ADOPTER hereby fully and completely releases, indemnifies, and holds harmless INTERSTATE and its volunteers from any claim, cause of action, damages, or liability of any sort or nature, whether known or unknown, directly, or indirectly arising out of or in connection with the adoption, care, ownership, maintenance, temperament, or condition of the pet.
ENTIRE AGREEMENT; MODIFICATION; BINDING EFFECT – This agreement is the entire agreement between INTERSTATE and ADOPTER and supersedes any prior understandings between INTERSTATE and ADOPTER with respect to the subject matter of this AGREEMENT. This Agreement is binding between INTERSTATE and ADOPTER’S heirs, assigns, successors, personal representatives, and successors.
